  • Carl Mizzery’s 2006 year in review: 28th December

First thing that springs to mind is a match I had with King Khan in April at a KSW show titled ‘Deadly Alliance 3’ the match its self felt great until there was a miscommunication with the referee which cause the finish to be changed on the spot which I was very angry with at the time. And I thought it screwed the whole contest up, anyone who knows me will know that I think one fuck up is one too many, so this soured the whole contest for me, but when I looked at it across the DVD I found it’s one of my favourite matches this year and if you weren’t me or Khan you wouldn’t know that the finish was changed as you can’t tell where the ref messed up.

I had been playing face for KSW for over a year at this point and was getting a bit bored with the direction the Carl Mizzery character was going as I had wrestled most of the Villains in KSW. KSW also had loads of new trainees coming through and I felt I could give the new Baby faces the rub playing heel in the same way I was able to help the villains by playing face.

I did an EWF show in March where I was booked to play Heel, which I was very excited about, as I’d not done it since 2003. I was geared up and I loved the response I got in my match and was overjoyed that it came so natural and was almost easy. The match flow and pace seemed the way it was supposed to because, as the Blue-eye (baby face), you have to rely on the Heel to set a good pace and make sure they’re over as an antagonist because if your working a Heel who has no clue on how to set a pace, or to play villain, the match is screwed.

A. Because the pace will be wrong and B. If the crowd doesn’t hate the heel (because he is doing flashy moves and stealing the Face heat or just because he doesn’t work the crowd) they aren’t going to cheer the Blue-eye.

A good Villain will always make a good Face.

Speaking to one of my best friends Adam ‘Celt’ Kennedy informed me that FCW were looking for more outside workers and my name cropped up along with a few others as possibility to work for them. I was quite surprised at this as KSW and FCW didn’t really get on for a number of reasons and I’m really pro-KSW, so for them to ask me to come over and wrestle for them was very surprising. I agreed as I saw it as a opportunity to build bridges, FCW had a good following and I thought “why not? I’ll get my name about a bit more” so I appeared on their show in April.

I wrestled ‘The Judge’ in a fast-paced match. This is also one of my favourite matches this year because on that night I felt the Judge woke something in me that was dormant for a good long while: my passion and love for wrestling.

The match reminded me of a time when I was in love with wrestling, the Judge made me do things I hadn’t done in ages and pushed me to the level I should have been performing at and I’m very grateful for that, so thank you Stuart J.

Brandon Thomas… What a guy!

I have learnt so much from this man this year. A truly Sterling performer, a guy who is full of ideas and another guy who I am so pleased to have met, as a locker room without him would be no fun at all. He has pushed me to a level where I can truly say my matches after wrestling him have become better and better. Brandon has taught me so much this year and is definitely my favourite opponent as I could wrestle Brandon every day and have a bunch of great safe matches.

Injuries: GRRRRR!!

In my eight years of wrestling I’ve not had many injuries until now. This year has been the worst time for me in regards to the amount injuries. It all started when I dislocated my right shoulder in training, from there it’s just snowballed. I’ve badly bruised my coccyx, busted my head open (needing to have it glued shut), hit my heal pretty bad 2 months ago and both my knees are giving me real problems. It’s a burden and a concern as it’s been affecting my matches, so much so that people are making comment on it and with me being a perfectionist this is something that bothers me more than I’d like. I’m hoping that in the New Year I’ll be all sorted so I can give it 110% in my matches, so figures crossed.

By this time at KSW I was Heel and No.1 contender to KSW British title (Yay me!) and was heading into a 3-way dance with two talented guys, Kid Flash and Cupid Valentino and this was another favourite bout for 2006.

A move that sticks out in my mind is when all three of us were involved in a German and a t-bone suplex at the same time Quality stuff. It was even selected as a clip for the Night of Champions montage on “You-tube”.

Over 18s show at FCW in September pitted me against Staxx in a Catch-weight bout. The idea behind our bout was that everyone else on the card had decided to do a hardcore style bout and we wanted to do something different, so we went for the good old fashion small-guy/big-guy contest and it went down very well. This was another of my favourite matches because I felt that Staxx hadn’t shown people what he was really capable of. However, in this contest he work his ass off and proved he is isn’t a just another lazy big man. With that said I also won a bet with Celt that if I couldn’t tombstone pile drive the 23stone Staxx I would have to give him a fiver but if I could, Celty boy would have to give me the money. I managed to get the big man up and earn 5 English pounds off old Celt Kennedy, though it was a safe bet as Staxx and I had trained together a few hours earlier!!! LOL.

And finally, I got my KSW title shot after 31 months in waiting. I won the title for the 4th time in a match I’m very proud of. It was one of those bouts where everything came together and it all made sense. I even messed about with my character a bit, acting a bit psychotic and throwing tantrums, something of which I’m still working on currently, it’s a cross between Glory (a Buffy the Vampire Slayer villain), Victoria and a gimmick Christian Cage did in 2002 with DDP. I look forward to tweaking the character and making it my own in the New Year.

I’ve met some really great guys over the 2006 period and I’m very lucky to have met these genuine people, to many to mention on here lol but they should know who they are.

2006 has been a wake up period for me and the small contribution I add to the world of wrestling. I hope 2007 holds something Big for ‘Carl Mizzery’ so keep posted to this space for updates

If you’ve taken the time to read this I really appreciate it and thank you … have a great New Year.

And that’s it 2006 written about well my highlights

Peace and love

Keep safe

Carl

  • December 29th 2005 year in review

This year I made my return to K- star wrestling, as its said in one of my previous commentary’s I left in 2003 coz of personal reasons, but never the less I returned on February 25th 2005 in a match for the KSW British championship Vs Maddog Maxx, one of my favourites matches this year.

I also had the chance for the first time in my career to wrestle an American  ‘Chad Collier’ in March, which I really really enjoyed totally.

Chad is very experienced in wrestling having worked for ROH, TNA and WWE

I felt I learnt so much during that bout as I don’t really get to wrestle people with more experience than myself so it was a pleasure wrestling him it was also a bonus when he told me he enjoyed working with me, defiantly my favorite match this year! I hope to work with Chad in future.

I stepped into the squared circle against two ‘World of sport Legends’ this year which was a great learning experience for me wrestling John ‘Taffy’ Jenkins in May and the ‘Rock n Roll Express’ Blondie Barrett in November after working with these guys I found out my style and psychology is more or less exactly the same as there’s this made me feel good about myself cause you hear the old timers in the dressing rooms saying how wrestlers today do to much and they really don’t have to so it felt good that they thought I was doing it right lol.

I went on Holiday in July to Falaraki in Greece with a 18 - 30’s expecting sun sea and……se… SAND lol, but as soon as the 18-30’s team found out that we were professional wrestlers they asked us if we were able to be booked as a show for 18-30’s… we all sat down and had a think about it and eventually made a agreement with Club 18-30’s, we had our stuff sent over as Sal Americana flew out the week after us and we had two wrestling matches in the baking hot sun which was a experience to say the very least one of the matches was in a actual night club which was very weird compared to a town halls or social clubs lol but all the same its something to tell the grand kids lol

Concentrating on the Training in KSW some good lads are coming through from the Academy Cupid Valentino Tyler Ryane and Daz Donagan all made there debuts in November and have bright futures in KSW I’d like to wish them good luck in future shows with us.

Wrestling these past few months for me doesn’t have the same buzz as it used to which gets to me sometimes coz I wish it did but constantly wrestling the same guys all the time and travelling to the ova side of the country and coming back home with less money than you went with sort takes the fun out of it don’t get me wrong I like the people I go on with and that’s no way a dig at them its just doing the same thing constantly gets a bit boring. But as wrestling is mainly a hobby for me and not a career its good to keep it interesting, hopefully it should all spark up for me in 2006 in the mean time I’d like to wish you all a Happy new year … and thanks for taking the time to read my commentary/ review 2005

Cheers and keep safe
